The Carter Education Centre

Our new school is named in honor of the founders of the ministry, the late Bob and Ethel Carter.

Imagine schools built from sticks, mud, and corrugated steel sheets; one teacher for every 55 students; sitting on the floor because there aren’t enough desks; three students sharing a desk and textbooks because there aren’t enough for everyone; classrooms full of students without a teacher. All of this is incomprehensible to Americans, but it’s the reality that many Kenyan children face.

Public school classrooms can have as many as 60 students. That bright light in the back is not a window. It is a hole in the mud wall.  And as you can see, the children share desks, and they share books. But to make matters worse, the teachers often serve more than one school, so they are not in class full time. On days when the regular teacher is not there, one of the older students becomes the substitute.

Obviously, we saw the need for better education for our children. We also saw the need for Christian based education. By building and operating our own school, we have another opportunity to share the truth of God’s Word not only to our children but also to the children in the community who attend the school.

Phase One: a four-room building to provide classrooms for 9th and 10th grades and offices for the staff.

Phase Two: Classrooms for 200 students including two classes each of grades 9 through 12 as well as offices and a chemistry and physics lab.

Executive directors, Pierce and Carma Foulk with a group of young and talented teachers. They handle a wide range of subjects: math including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry; science including physics and chemistry, languages including Kiswahili and English, both of which are new to the students; and CRE, Christian Resource Education.

Here, all of our students, churched or not churched get the opportunity to learn about Jesus. But we are not stopping there. We will be adding Old and New Testament Survey, Theology, Apologetics, Hermeneutics, and other Christian courses. We work in an area inundated with false religion. It is imperative that our students be equipped with the tools to defend the Christian faith in their homes and communities.

At The Carter Education Centre each student has their own desk, their own books, and teachers are always in the classrooms during the school day.
